Wash. Investigators Probe Storm Drain Fires
REDMOND, Wash. --
Two new storm drain fires set in the Redmond area have fire investigators concerned they may be dealing with a firebug.
The latest two fires happened sometime late Wednesday or early Thursday. The first was on Sun Break Way near NE 130th St. and then another on 224th Ave. NE at Union Hill Road.
Investigators say someone is pouring some kind of flammable liquid down storm drains and then lighting them on fire.
The fire on Sun Break Way blew the storm grate off something that usually requires a tool to loosen the bolts.
The fire on 224th Ave. NE at Union Hill Road happened near the Mormon Church, but fire officials tell KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that is not changing the focus of their investigation.
King County and Redmond fire investigators say there have been 6 similar fires in the last month.
No one has been hurt in any of the fires and so far police have not made any arrests.
