DETROIT --
The Detroit Fire Department is asking for the public's help in finding the arsonists who left a trail of flame and destruction in northwest Detroit early Tuesday morning.
Local 4's Morning Cam was at the scene as firefighters battled blazes at three homes on Puritan and Greenlawn roads.
Only one home was occupied but the residents got out safely.
In all, eight houses were set on fire from 2:20 a.m. to 7 p.m. between Puritan and Plymouth streets and Livernois and Meyers streets.
Tipsters could be eligible for a $5,000 reward for providing information that could lead to an arrest.
"I encourage all residents to take an active role in helping prevent arson fires by monitoring any suspicious people and vehicles to minimize loss of life and property," said James W. Mack, Jr. executive fire commissioner of the Detroit Fire Department.
Anyone with information can report information by calling 1-800-44-ARSON or 1-800-442-7766.
