Ore. FFs Battle 3-Alarm Blaze At Church

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze at a northeast Portland church Monday night, fire officials said. The fire, first reported at 7:15 p.m., damaged the Eastside Foursquare Church on Sandy Boulevard and 97th Avenue. Lt. Al Oswalt of the Portland Fire Bureau said the nearby Roadway Inn Motel was evacuated and no one was injured. At one point the flames were so dangerous, Oswalt said, firefighters had to retreat and battle the fire defensively.

Firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze at a northeast Portland church Monday night, fire officials said.

The fire, first reported at 7:15 p.m., damaged the Eastside Foursquare Church on Sandy Boulevard and 97th Avenue.

Lt. Al Oswalt of the Portland Fire Bureau said the nearby Roadway Inn Motel was evacuated and no one was injured.

At one point the flames were so dangerous, Oswalt said, firefighters had to retreat and battle the fire defensively.

There is no word on what caused the fire.
