BROWNSVILLE, Pa. --
More than a dozen residents of a personal care home in Brownsville, Fayette County, were forced out into the cold and several were taken to hospitals after a fire ignited at the facility on Monday night.
Firefighters from nine companies were called to assist at the Brownsville Personal Care Home in the 300 block of Front Street shortly after 10:30 p.m.
Assistant Fire Chief Jordan Sealy with Brownsville Fire Company No. 1 said that when they got there, no smoke was showing. Then, fire crews went up the stairs and a resident came out screaming that there was a fire in the bedroom.
No major injuries were reported but medics were on scene for fire crews working in the cold temperatures.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The extent of the damage was not immediately known.
The Salvation Army was notified to assist the fifteen displaced residents, some of whom were taken to relatives' homes.
