ATLANTA --

One person was killed in a fire in a vacant church building in northeast Atlanta Tuesday morning, according to Atlanta Fire Department officials.

The fire broke out in a community building at the Druid Hills Baptist Church in the 600 block of Seminole Avenue in northeast Atlanta.

Church officials said no one was supposed to be in the building.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Darryn Moore interviewed the church pastor who said the building was a homeless ministry run by a non-profit organization out of the church.

The non-profit organization had suffered financial problems which caused the homeless ministry to shut down in April, according to Reverend Mimi Walker. Burglar bars were installed to keep people from breaking in.

The pastor said she believed the victim broke into the building to get out of the cold.

Firefighters are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.

The fire victim has not been identified. His body was taken to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office.
