CHARLEROI, Pa. --
A firefighter was injured while responding to a suspicious vacant house fire in Washington County Tuesday night.
Authorities said the firefighter suffered minor cuts while trying to get into the home in the 900 block of Crest Avenue in Charleroi. He was taken to the Mon Valley Hospital to get stitches.
Chief Robert Whiten Jr., of the Charleroi Fire Department, told WTAE Channel 4 Action News that the investigation revealed this is the second time there has been a fire at the vacant home in the last six or seven months.
The Fire Chief also said they confiscated a coffee can filled with gasoline that was found next to the house.
"We found a can of gas. It was in a coffee-type container. We're going to hold that for evidence at the police station and when the fire marshal gets here in the morning, we're going to investigate it," Whiten said.
The Fire Marshal has been called out to investigate.
