ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A quick-moving fire started in the paper good section of a Family Dollar store and grew to four alarms last night (Nov. 23), according to The Democrat and Chronicle.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze. One suffered exhaustion while cutting through a thick section of roof while another cut his hand while opening a ventilation space on a glass block. Neither was hospitalized.

The fire began at 1731 N. Clinton Avenue around noon and was under control at approximately 5:20 p.m.

The roof of the store caved in about an hour into the fire and soon after the back wall collapsed. Some of the roofs of the neighboring stores also fell through during the fire.

A total of 15 city fire companies and eight fire companies from outside the city responded to the blaze.

Officials called the fire suspicious and ATF investigators are expected to assist in the investigation. The fire destroyed the bargain story along with other businesses in the plaza including the Diamond Coin-Op Laundry, a Salvatore's Pizzeria, Zafiros Barber Salon and Fireball Wireless, according to the newspaper.
