PARMA, Ohio
--
A fire broke out in a store at Parmatown Mall Wednesday, forcing the mall to be evacuated.
Parma spokesman Jack Marschall said a fire caused extensive smoke damage in the mall and it had to close. The mall reopened at 3 p.m.
The fire broke out around 9:23 a.m. in U.S. Fame. Workers used six extinguishers to put out the fire, and 20 Parma firefighters, who were at a training facility on the mall grounds, responded within minutes.
But despite the quick reaction and response, smoke poured out of the store into the mall, forcing officials to evacuate 120 stores.
Anchor stores with outside access, including Macy's, J.C. Penney, Dick's and Walmart, remained open.
There were no serious injuries reported from the fire. One worker who helped put out suffered a cut finger but was treated and released.
The fire was contained to one rack of dresses and is being investigated by Fire Prevention for a cause and damage amount.
Parma officials said the Parma Recreation Office will be closed for the day.
