A business was destroyed and a firefighter was injured in an early morning fire on Dec. 10, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Crews battled the blaze at J&M Market, 3001 South Jefferson Avenue amid 12-degree temperatures. The fire began at approximately 4:40 a.m.

One firefighter suffered a lower-back strain and was taken to St. Louis University Hospital.

The two-story brick building housed a convenience story on the lower floor and apartments on the second floor. The store was closed for the day and the apartments were vacant at the time of the fire.

It took crews about an hour to bring the fire under control. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
