11 Escape Missouri House Fire

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A family of 11 escaped an early morning house fire at 31st Street and Kensington Avenue early Tuesday morning. The fire was reported at about 5:30 a.m. A neighbor spotted flames shooting from the roof and alerted the family. KMBC's Peggy Breit talked to firefighters who said smoke and flames were showing when they rolled up to the home. Crews were able to put out the fire quickly. No injuries were reported.

A family of 11 escaped an early morning house fire at 31st Street and Kensington Avenue early Tuesday morning.

The fire was reported at about 5:30 a.m. A neighbor spotted flames shooting from the roof and alerted the family.

KMBC's Peggy Breit talked to firefighters who said smoke and flames were showing when they rolled up to the home.

Crews were able to put out the fire quickly. No injuries were reported.

The fire damaged the inside of the home. The Red Cross was helping the three adults and eight children find a place to stay. The family told Breit that they believe the fire started in the attic.
