Surfboard Glass Shop Damaged by Fire in Calif.

Dec. 07--SANTA CRUZ -- A fire that started in a resin container on the floor was doused Tuesday night at a surfboard glassing shop on Almar Street, firefighters reported.
No one was injured in the blaze, which was reported about 8:10 p.m., said Santa Cruz Fire Division Chief Mark Ramos.
An employee in the business said he was mixing surfboard resin in a container on the ground when it apparently got hot and ignited, Ramos said. There was a few thousand dollars worth of damage, firefighters said.
The employee evacuated and the fire was put out by a ceiling fire sprinkler before firefighters arrived, Ramos said.
"The place would have probably burned down if it weren't for the sprinkler system," Ramos said. "The sprinkler system did its job."
Several surfboard manufacturers use the space and firefighters said the blaze started at Almar Surfboards.
Screwball Industries, another surfboard maker, is also in the building.
