Too Many Holiday Lights Spark Texas Home Fire

Dec. 08--An overload of Christmas lights sparked a house fire on the 5800 block of Dartmouth Street Wednesday evening, said Lubbock Fire Department investigators. The home's resident surpassed the Christmas lights manufacturer's recommendation of connecting a maximum of two strands of lights by installing seven strings attached to a single extension cord, according to a Facebook post by the Lubbock Fire Department. The meeting point of the extension cord and the Christmas lights overheated, igniting the eave the house and causing flames to spread to the attic, according to the post. Firefighters extinguished the fire, salvaging many of the home's contents. There were no injuries.
