Police are trying to piece together what led to a man's death on the city's northeast side.
The burned body of a man was found Friday night in his apartment. Police said an autopsy confirmed that the man died from the burns.
As crime scene investigators search for clues outside the scorched apartment of Cardell Livingston, 32, his family searches for answers.
Detectives said Livingston's body was found inside his apartment in the 5700 block of San Paulo Circle. The front door was unlocked and his pickup truck was found parked outside.
"We want to know if anybody saw anything last night at the apartment complex, probably between 11 p.m. and midnight. That was when the fire was reported to us," said Marion County sheriff's Capt. Doug Scheffel. "It was a fairly small fire but it was hot. It was very intense."
Livingston's brother, George Wilson, wondered who might have been involved.
"I think it was not an accident because he doesn't smoke, and if they said it wasn't electrical, what could have happened?" Wilson said.
Authorities consider the fire's origins suspicious, RTV6's Jeremy Brilliant reported. The fire left no obvious signs on the outside of the building and firefighters said the blaze was out by the time they arrived.
Although Livingston's body was badly burned, he was positively identified from fingerprints.
Wilson said his brother did not have any enemies that he knew of.
"If he did, I didn't know about it and he would have told me," Wilson said.
Wilson spoke with Livingston just two days ago. He said things were going well. Livingston told Wilson he was working full time and going to church.
"We want to find out as much as we can about our victim. Anyone that was with him or saw him last night can tell us where he was at, what he was doing, who he was with. That's what we need to find out," Scheffel said.
Police said Livingston did have a minor criminal history, but they don't believe it led to his death.
