Mysterious Fire Damages North Carolina Car Dealership

Oct. 24, 2005
Tires were exploding but the fire never reached the motor oil or gasoline.

Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out overnight at a car dealership in Harnett County.

The fire occurred in the service department at the Bleecker dealership in Dunn near Highway 421. The first floor was gutted with a number of cars damaged. The second floor of the dealership suffered smoke damage.

Firefighters say there were tires exploding in the building due to the high temperatures. They said the situation could have been worse when they discovered that one of the rooms had motor oil and gasoline in it.

There were no injuries. It took firefighters 20 minutes to put out the fire.

Authorities say they did not know about the fire until a burglar alarm went off. They are trying to figure out why the alarm went off and the cause of the fire.
