Dec. 12--NEW HAVEN -- Police are treating as vandalism an incident reported just after midnight Monday where a partially burned Bible was found beneath a Christmas tree on the lower town green. Firefighters and police were called to the tree for a report that it was on fire, but instead found the burned Bible, police said. The Bible had been placed on top of the electrical wires powering the tree's lights. Firefighters shut off the power to prevent damage and contacted the parks department.
