LONGMONT, Colo.
--
Firefighters have extinguished a blaze that destroyed a metal shop in Longmont.
The fire was burning at North 65th Street and Nelson Road, home to the business Colorado Precision and Plating Inc.
The green and white sign on the building that was gutted by the fire said it was used for anodizing and plating. Anodizing is an electrochemical process that converts a metal surface, usually aluminum, into a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant, anodic oxide finish.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A man and a woman, both on walkers, watched from a distance as firefighters worked on the blaze.
No one was injured and all the animals are accounted for, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said. The workshop was located between a horse barn and a main residential home.
The Boulder County Sheriffs Office is working the case, but have not officially released any information about the fire.
Because of the chemicals used for anodizing, firefighters kept news crews at a distance because of the fumes. No nearby homes were evacuated.
There were reports on the radio that there were no working hydrants nearby and that may have delayed firefighting efforts.
Crews from Hygiene and Lefthand Canyon responded to the blaze.
It's not clear when the fire started. When AirTracker7 flew over the building at 7:13 a.m., large flames were already shooting from the roof.
