A tragic beginning to the new year for one family after a deadly fire rips through a home in North Bellmore.
Nassau County Police say a spark from a fireplace may have caused a home on Rosemont Street to catch fire.
An 82-year old man tried to rescue his wife and son, but the flames were too intense. He managed to escape, his wife and son did not.
Neighbors say they tried to help police rescue the two.
