MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) -- The 18-year-old son of a Missoula couple was arrested early Monday, accused of attempting to kill his parents by throwing an incendiary device through their bedroom window.

Police said the man's father suffered burns, and he was listed in fair condition at St. Patrick Hospital late Monday.

The young man's mother and three younger siblings, who were also home at the time, were not injured, said Police Sgt. Geron Wade.

Police arrested Joseph Dana on one charge of arson and two counts of attempted murder. After an initial appearance in Justice Court, he was returned to jail on $250,000 bail.

Wade said city firefighters were called to the family's home shortly after 3 a.m. and found one of the bedrooms on fire.

The blaze was extinguished and Wade said investigators found what appeared to be a container filled with a flammable substance that had been ignited and thrown through a window.

While police and fire crews were still at the house, Joseph Dana was seen walking along a street nearby.

Officers ``stopped and talked to him and he admitted to starting the fire,'' although he did not indicate why, Wade said.

He said the damage to the home from the fire was not severe.
