June 17, 2003 -- One of the men charged with setting the deadly dormitory fire that killed three Seton Hall University students posted $2 million bail and expected to be released today.

A lawyer for Joseph T. LePore, 22, of Florham Park, told The Star-Ledger of Newark that the money was split almost 50-50 between property and bond, including the LePore family's home.

LePore was not immediately freed because he faces assault charges in Morris County stemming from a collision he had with a law-enforcement vehicle as officers moved in to arrest him last week, said Capt. Frank Lamotta of the Essex County Sheriff's Office.

Also yesterday, a lawyer for Sean Ryan, 22, of Livingston, was granted more time to come up with property to make his $2 million bail.

Ryan's lawyer asked a judge to consider five properties belonging to Ryan's parents, relatives and friends, but noted he had not yet been able to certify their value. AP
