Mo. Firefighters Rescue Man From Burning House

-- Dec. 20--Kansas City firefighters rescued a man Monday from a burning house on the city's East Side. The fire was reported about 7:30 a.m. in the 6600 block of East 17th Street. Arriving fire crews reported seeing heavy smoke coming from the single-story house, said Battalion Chief Joe Vitale, a department spokesman.

The fire was reported about 7:30 a.m. in the 6600 block of East 17th Street.

Arriving fire crews reported seeing heavy smoke coming from the single-story house, said Battalion Chief Joe Vitale, a department spokesman.

Firefighters conducting a primary search of the house found the man in a room and brought him out to safety. The man, who was conscious when he was found, was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to a hospital, Vitale said. The extent of his injuries was not available.

Meanwhile, other firefighters attacked and quickly extinguished the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No estimate on damages was available.
