Dec. 21--A 76-year-old East Allen Township woman died after a fire at her home Wednesday morning and fire officials said the home had no working smoke detectors.
Shortly before 1:30 a.m., Ann Beynon was found unresponsive inside her burning home at 5303 Green Meadow Road. She later died and an autopsy was performed Wednesday, but the results are inconclusive pending additional testing, said Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim.
The fire in Beynon's home was limited to food on the stove and there were no working smoke detectors inside, said East Allen Township Fire Marshal John McDevitt. He declined to comment further, citing the ongoing investigation in Beynon's death.
After Beynon was discovered inside the home, she was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg and was pronounced dead around 2:15 a.m., according to a news release from coroner Scott Grim.
State police and the coroner's office are investigating the blaze, the release states.
According to Northampton County property records, the home is owned by Ann Beynon.
State police in Bethlehem would only say the fire is still under investigation.
