Police at the University of Colorado are investigating two arson fires on the Boulder campus over spring break.
The first fire started around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday in the ATLAS building. A custodial crew discovered a burned newspaper on the carpet just inside the northeast entrance of the building.
Neither the carpet nor the building was damaged. The second fire started aaround 5:45 a.m. Sunday outside the Education Building.
A police department employee noticed flames traveling up the side of the building. He used a fire extinguisher to douse the flames, but saw debris still smoldering.
The Boulder Fire Department extinguished the remaining smoldering debris. The burnt debris, including charred newspapers, bottles and magazines, spanned an area about 10 feet by 4 feet. The east wall of the Education Building had black char marks from the ground to the roof that were more than 8 feet wide.
A preliminary estimate of the damage is $800. CU police ask that anyone with information on these crimes contact Detective Brian Jordan at 303-492-8168.
