Detroit firefighters and arson investigators are on the scene of four house fires burning on the city's east side, less than 24 hours after about a dozen suspicious fires broke out in southwest Detroit.

Today's fires began at 6:09 a.m. on Hardyke, near Van Dyke and Harper, Detroit Fire Department Arson Unit Chief ElDon Parham said. By 7 a.m., four homes were burning, with multiple fire department engine companies on the scene.

"Right now, my (goal) is to get a team together to try to find somebody to give us some information on it," Parham said, acknowledging that the best information to catch an arsonist usually comes from neighbors near the fires. He said arson unit investigators are also combing the neighborhoods in southwest Detroit where vacant homes were burned late Sunday into Monday.

Anyone with information about the blazes is asked to call the Michigan Arson Tipline at 1-800-44-ARSON.

A reward of up to $5,000 is available for tips that lead to an arrest and conviction.
