At Least Three People Dead in Texas Mobile Home Fire

There is no indication of arson or foul play, but the investigation is still in its early stages.

An officer with the State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the scene of a Lubbock County mobile home late Monday, claiming three lives.

It's likely officials will be on the scene on the 5900 block of East Hwy. 84 all day to examine the scene to determine the fire's cause.

There is no indication of arson or foul play, said Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe, but the investigation is still in its early stages.

Investigators are not releasing details about the victims in the home.

Firefighters received an emergency call at 11:46 p.m. and arrived at the scene 10 minutes later, said Capt. Dustin Brown with the Slaton Fire Department.

They found three quarters of the mobile home engulfed in flames.

Initial efforts to extinguish the fire by the Slaton, Buffalo Springs Lake and Ransom Canyon fire departments lasted about 45 minutes.

Extinguishing the remaining smoldering fires and cleaning of the rubble took about three hours, Brown said.

Winds blowing at about 25 mph spread flames onto two vehicles next to the mobile home and destroyed them, Brown said.

The isolated location of the mobile home kept the rest of the mobile home park residents safe, Brown said.
