Two firefighters were forced to bail out a second-story building during an apartment house fire in Delaware due to rapidly deteriorating conditions on Friday.
The two firefighters, one with the Odessa Fire Company, and the second from the Townsend Fire Company were not injured during the incident, according to a news release from the Odessa Fire Company.
The first crews on the scene of the fire, which was reported at 2:02 p.m., discovered heavy smoke showing from a two story, multi-family dwelling. Crews quickly found the fire had extended into the second floor and attic.
The two firefighters were advancing a hose line through a second-floor window when condition rapidly deteriorated and they were forced to bail out the same window they entered. Within 12 seconds after bailing, heavy flames were spiraling out the window.
Firefighters from 10 other surrounding communities, two paramedics and several BLS units were on the scene for about two and a half hours fighting the fire.
Neither the cause of the fire, nor the extent of damage was reported by the fire departments.
