S.C. Fire Damages Home of Charleston 9 Firefighter

Charleston fire officials are expected to investigate a fire in the home of a former CCFD captine.
Monday, fire heavily damaged a West Ashley house occupied by family of late Fire Capt. Mike Benke, who died in Sofa Superstore fire.
The Charleston Fire Department responded to a fire on Eve Circle just before 7:00 p.m. Monday night after neighbors called 911. No one was inside at the time, but a family dog was killed.
This fire took place at the home owned by the widow of Charleston 9 firefighter Mike Benke. Benke died along with 8 other Charleston firefighters in the Sofa Superstore fire in June of 2007.
News 2 talked with Charleston Fire Marshall Mike Julazadeh. He says the home was not destroyed, but it is not habitable. Julazadeh said there are provisions for the family over night.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
