Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units on Jan. 17 at 1:10 p.m. responded to a townhouse fire at 5455 Cheshire Meadows Way in the Fairview area.
Firefighters upon arrival encountered smoke and fire coming from the basement of the two-story, middle-unit townhouse. Firefighters conducted an aggressive attack, brought the fire under control in about 15 minutes and confined the fire to the single townhouse, officials said.
One firefighter received a non-life-threatening injury and was transported to the Washington Hospital Burn Center, officials said.
No one was home when the blaze broke out, fire officials said. Three adults and one child have been displaced. The Red Cross offered support, but the occupants declined it, officials said.
Fire officials estimate the blaze caused $180,000 worth of damage. The fire’s cause is under investigation, authorities said.
