Jan. 24--A fire early today killed two family members in a house near Buckeye Lake, with firefighters from three counties called to the scene to battle the blaze.

Fairfield County Sheriff Dave Phalen this morning identified the victims as Milton Clagg Sr. and his wife, Mary Clagg, both 62. Their bodies were found together near the bathroom of the house at 13050 Shell Beach Rd. in Thornville, Phalen said.

Firefighters were called around midnight to the single-story, wood-frame, house in Walnut Township, according to the Fairfield County sheriff's office.

Five others escaped the fire, which was reported at midnight, Phalen said.

The cause has not been determined, he said.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's office removed debris from the home and hope it will help determine the cause of the blaze, said Battalion Chief Rob Robertson, of the Millersport Fire Department.

No one at the scene was transported to a hospital, according to some of the fire departments involved in fighting the blaze.

A dispatcher with the Hebron Fire Department, which sent an engine and medic to the scene, said multiple companies were called to the scene because there are no hydrants in the area and the cold weather made fighting the fire especially dangerous.

Most of the fire departments called to battle the blaze were back in their stations around 3 a.m.

The bodies were taken to the Licking County coroner's office for autopsies.
