Jan. 28--HICKORY -- No injuries were reported but a number of residents were left looking for shelter Sunday night after fire damaged an apartment building in Hickory, officials say.
The fire was reported shortly after 9:15 p.m. at a multi-story building in the 600 block of 2nd Street Place SW.
Firefighters found flames coming from second-story windows when they arrived, Hickory fire spokeswoman Terri Byers said. Crews initially responded with four vehicles but called for an additional vehicle with the second alarm.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about 20 minutes and contained the fire to the second floor of the building. Byers said damaged was "considered major."
The American Red Cross helped find shelter for residents who were displaces.
Investigators are working to determine a cause of the blaze.
