Feb. 13--CHATSWORTH -- One person is dead and the double-wide mobile home he was living in destroyed by a fire investigators said started Tuesday evening.
The man's identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is on the scene, and while agents there referred questions to a supervisor who didn't immediately return a call seeking comment, Murray County Sheriff's Office Capt. John Cherry said officials haven't been able to confirm the start of the blaze or rule out anything suspicious. The home was on Hensley Road, near the foot of Fort Mountain, and Cherry said the man's body was discovered in a bedroom.
The home, he said, was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived.
"Any time there is a body at a fire or any scene, we look at it from the aspect that it could be a crime scene," Cherry said.
Officials from the state fire marshal's office were also on scene.
Cherry said at least one child was known to stay with the man periodically, but investigators believe no one else was home at the time of the fire and that the child or children had already left with another relative.
