March 29--One of two fires considered arson on the Eastern Shore Thursday night is being investigated as part of a string of more than 70 fires set at abandoned buildings since November.

The first fire, reported shortly after 6:10 p.m., began in a mulch bed by the front steps of an occupied home in the 37300 block of Dreadnaught Drive in Greenbackville, according to a news release. Investigators believe that fire was deliberately set, but is not related to the arsons that have burned mostly abandoned homes and businesses.

The second fire, believed to be a part of those cases, was reported at 11:55 p.m. in the 36600 block of Seaside Road in Painter.

That home was abandoned and was uninhabitable and overgrown with trees and thick brush, the release says.

No other details were available this morning.

A reward of $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the ongoing arson cases. Anyone with information can call or text 757-655-1437.
