July 08--A house exploded in Beloit Sunday night, injuring two people.

Firefighters were sent to the home at 2041 Meridith Drive at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, said a Rock County dispatcher.

The Janesville Gazette reported that a woman was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville for treatment of burns.

"There was a lady in there and she was saying, 'Help me, help me, I can't move my legs,'" neighbor Diana Smith told the Gazette. "We kept on telling her that help was on the way."

Emergency crews tunneled through debris to look for a man still inside the collapsed home, and Beloit's WIFR reported that crews rescued the man after two hours of searching. He was flown to a Madison hospital.

Firefighters reported some pets were killed in the explosion, which flattened the house. The couple were renting the house and had recently moved in, the Gazette reported.

Officials evacuated residents living near the home. The cause of the explosion was unknown.
