Oct. 24--Tulsa firefighters are investigating what sparked a fire inside a abandoned grocery store early Thursday.
First responders were called about 4:30 a.m. to the Piggly Wiggly in the 3700 block of East Admiral Place, Capt. Chad Meyer said.
Heavy smoke could be seen pouring out of the boarded up building stationed in the heart of a strip mall when crews arrived at the scene, Meyer said.
Firefighters were able extinguish the blaze, which was located in the back of the store and rescued a civilian who was inside at the time, he said.
He was treated by EMSA and released at the scene, Meyer said.
Meyer said the man -- who was seeking shelter -- gained access to the building by entering through the roof.
The man is expected to be jailed on an arson complaint.
No other injuries were reported, firefighters said.
