Nov. 13--A 32-year-old woman died in a fire late Tuesday night as wind-whipped flames ripped through a house just southeast of downtown.
The blaze broke out about 11:40 p.m. at the home in the 5300 block of Clay near Lansing, according to the Houston Fire Department.
Officials said when firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames in the front of the house. High winds quickly whipped the blaze, driving the flames through the home and into the attic. Officials said two people escaped the flames. But the woman was unable to get out and her relatives could not help her to safety because the fire was too intense.
The woman's body was discovered in the back bedroom. No other injuries were reported.
Official said the fire heavily damaged the house.
Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the blaze.
