Dec. 21--AIKEN -- Crews responding to a house fire early Saturday morning found two bodies inside after the blaze was extinguished, and authorities now say they suspect the fire was started by a child playing with matches.
Family members at the scene -- 644 Pinecrest Ave. -- on Saturday afternoon identified the victims as Mary Childs, 82, a longtime Aiken resident, and her 3-year-old great-granddaughter Arbrielle Douse.
They said the fire began about 12:30 a.m.
According to a statement from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, an 8-year-old in the home was able to escape. Firefighters with the Aiken Department of Public Safety discovered the two victims inside the home after the fire was put out.
The Aiken County Sheriff's Office said there will be no criminal charges.
