Fire Destroys North Carolina Church

Eight Lexington-area fire departments were able to keep fire from spreading to the Wayside Baptist Tabernacle Church fellowship hall, but the church was destroyed.

Feb. 02--LEXINGTON -- Fire destroyed a church early this morning.

The blaze started about 3:40 a.m. at Wayside Baptist Tabernacle Church, 104 Forest Hill Road, according to dispatchers. There were no reports of injuries.

Eight Lexington-area fire departments responded, using 15 fire trucks, dispatchers said. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the church's fellowship hall and an adjoining house, dispatchers said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
