March 20--A two-alarm fire in Mountain View significantly damaged one home and scorched another Wednesday afternoon.

The blaze on the 100 block of Wortham Court was reported at 2:46 p.m., said Mountain View Fire Department spokeswoman Jaime Garrett. Units arrived on scene a few minutes later and called a second alarm at 2:55 p.m. It took firefighters nearly three hours to fully extinguish the flames.

Both homes were occupied at the time of the fire, but the residents managed to escape unharmed, Garrett said.

The home where the blaze broke out suffered "quite significant damage" and was left uninhabitable, Garrett said. The American Red Cross provided assistance to the displaced residents.

The fire also caused moderate damage to an adjacent home, Garrett said.

Units from the Palo Alto and Santa Clara County fire departments helped Mountain View firefighters quench the blaze. There were no injuries to firefighters or bystanders, Garrett said.

Investigators were still working Wednesday to determine the cause of the fire, Garrett said.
