April 13--More than 20 cars were damaged in Millington during a fire outside the Memphis International Raceway Saturday afternoon, according to the Shelby County Fire Department.

At 4 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a brush fire outside the racetrack. Upon arrival, firefighters called for backup. Two more Shelby County engines and two Millington fire engines responded.

It took nearly two dozen firefighters 55 minutes to extinguish the fire that damaged 22 cars, said Brent Perkins, spokesman for the county department. The blaze might have been caused by hot exhaust from cars touching high grass, Perkins said.

No injuries were reported.
