Controlled Burn Causes Crash in Illinois

A driver drifted into an oncoming car in Carman.

May 24--CARMAN, Ill. -- A controlled burn is blamed for a three-vehicle accident Thursday on Carman Road, 1 mile north of Carman, Ill.

No injuries were reported.

According to the Henderson County Sheriff's Department, the fire was burning in a nearby field, causing a car in the southbound lane to drift into the northbound lane and hit an oncoming car. The impact caused the first car to go into the ditch, and another vehicle hit the car in the ditch.

Visibility was extremely limited due to the smoke drifting across the road, the department reported.
