June 19--One person died after a fire tore through a Koreatown apartment Wednesday evening.
The victim in Wednesday's blaze appeared to be an adult male, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
At least 13 others have died this year in fires in Los Angeles, officials have said.
The blaze Wednesday in the 200 block of South Normandie Avenue was reported shortly before 6:30 p.m. More than 50 firefighters responded to fire, which was confined to a single apartment in a three-story unit, the LAFD said.
The Fire Department was dispatching arson investigators to the scene, which is routine after fatal blazes.
Humphrey said 87 days have passed since the last fatal fire in the city. That blaze erupted in March in a single-family home in South Los Angeles.
