ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- An electrical problem caused a fire that left significant damage to an Alexandria hotel Sunday morning.

Firefighters say a fire broke out at the Quality Inn & Suites located in the 8800 block of Richmond Highway at about 2:20 a.m.

Crews learned that the electrical fire started in an utility room and then spread to two floors of the hotel, impacting about 30 percent of the building.

A total of 200 guests were evacuated from the building and taken to other nearby hotels, according to officials. Around 100 firefighters battled the flames.

Crews were able to get the fire under control as soon as the power company turned off the power.

A man was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and one firefighter was taken to MEDSTAR Burn Center for treatment of minor burns.
