Chief is Third Firefighter to Lose Home to Fire

Oct. 18, 2015
Three Lehigh firefighters have lost their homes to fires this year, including the chief's home, which was destroyed Friday.

When the Lehigh fire chief lost his home to a fire early Friday morning, others in the department understood his loss. Not because they are accustomed to responding to other fires, but because two other firefighters lost their homes to fires this year.

Fire Chief Kirk Kelley heard a loud noise from a closest at the front of his home before he discovered a fire around 3 a.m. Friday. He woke his wife and two children and they escaped with their dog.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to local television station KCCI.

An Oct. 5 fire destroyed the home of firefighter Cody Frazier. He was not home when that fire was reported.

In April, investigators determined that the fire that destroyed firefighter Milton Friedel's home was electrical in nature.

A GoFundMe account has been established to help Chief Kelley's family recover from the fire.
