GREEN VALLEY — A Virginia man test-driving a new Ford Mustang crashed into a garage on Maple Acres Road Tuesday afternoon, landing the vehicle on top of a vintage 1948 Coupe awaiting restoration.
Jeffrey Collins, 22, of Rich Creek, Va., lost control of the red, 2015 Mustang during the test-drive, Trooper D.R. Kincaid, with the West Virginia State Police Princeton detachment, said.
“The vehicle started fishtailing and struck the building,” Kincaid said.
The Mustang sustained visible front-end damage. “It will probably be a total loss,” Kincaid said.
A 1948 Dodge Coupe, owned by Kerry Helmandollar, was inside the garage at the time of the accident. The Coupe appeared to have no damage when it was towed out of the garage.
“I bought it when I was 16 years old,” Helmandollar said, as he watched firefighters clear debris off the vehicle. “The guy was supposed to pick it up this week or next week to restore it.”
There were no passengers in the Mustang.
Collins was not injured in the accident, which occurred around 12:45 p.m.
Maple Acres Road was closed for a period of time Tuesday afternoon as officials towed the vehicles and then demolished what remained of the garage.
The accident occurred across the road from Swampfox Motorsports.
Kincaid said Collins failed to maintain control of the vehicle.
