A large house equipped with a sprinkler system burned to the ground in Maryland on Monday.
Firefighters found heavy fire from the 4,200 square foot house in a rural area near Accokeek.
The homeowner managed to escape with his two dogs before firefighters arrived, explained Mark Brady, spokesman for Prince George's County Fire/Rescue.
A tanker task force was requested as there are no hydrants in the area.
"It is apparent that the volume of fire encountered by firefighters was enough to overwhelm the sprinkler system," Brady said.
There was a collapse. However, no firefighters were in the home when it occurred. There were no injuries.
The fire caused at least $1.5M damage.
An investigation has begun. However, crews are faced with extensive damage.
