Grass Fire Spreads to Kan. Church

The 120-year-old church suffered extensive damage.

A grass fire spread to historic church in Hartford Saturday, destroying the 120-year-old building.

An ember from a torch ignited a brush fire that spread to the First Christian Church of Hartford about 1:30 p.m.

Intense heat kept firefighters from entering the church, local radio station KVOE reports.

Firefighters from Hartford-Neosho Rapids and Coffey County used a ladder truck to bring the fire under control.
