Roof Collapses as Fire Sweeps Through Two ID Businesses

July 17, 2016
Boise officials believe the fire started above the roofline.

A three-alarm fire broke out on the 9000 block of Fairview Avenue around 11 a.m. on Saturday, damaging two businesses.

Boise Fire Department spokeswoman Tammy Barry said investigators were still on the scene Saturday afternoon trying to determine the cause of the fire. Barry said officials believe the blaze started above the building’s roof line, as there was a “total roof collapse early on in the fire.”

One business sustained moderate damage, while the other was damaged only minorly, by Barry’s estimation. She said authorities expect the businesses to be able to reopen around next week.

Crews were still on-site mopping up around 5 p.m. Saturday, and Barry said BFD investigators will work with the building’s owners to investigate.
