A man fled to his grandmother’s house Tuesday morning after his father shot him to stop him from burning himself and a home, deputies say.
Felton Wayne Swindler, 31, is being charged with attempted arson and assault and battery, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. He tried to burn himself and a house in the 9100 block of Wilson Boulevard, sheriff’s department spokeswoman Sgt. Brittany Scott said. Swindler’s father shot him in the lower body to stop him from doing so, Scott said. No charges have been filed against the father.
Deputies responded to Swindler’s grandmother’s house, in the 9300 block of Wilson Boulevard, at 2:30 a.m. Swindler had barricaded himself in, Scott said.
Officers took Swindler into custody just after 3 a.m. He was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, Scott said. No one else was injured in the incident.
There were no signs of drugs being involved in the incident, Scott said.
