A woman is charged with intentionally setting a fire in an Annapolis apartment building Wednesday night, which displaced five residents, the Annapolis Fire Department said.
Tracy Jones, 51, of Madison Street, is charged with multiple counts of arson and other related charges, the department said.
Jones was arrested Thursday morning after an investigation by the investigation section of the Annapolis Fire Marshal's Office determined the blaze was intentionally set, the department said.
Online court records show she is charged with 27 counts related to the incident.
Department spokesman Capt. John Bowes said Jones lives in the apartment where the fire occurred. He could not provide a motive for why the fire was set.
City firefighters were called at 10:07 p.m. to a report of a possible building fire in the 1100 block of Madison Street, with a report of a person trapped inside, the department said. The first arriving units reported seeing smoke coming from a building in the Harbour House apartment complex.
Firefighters made an "aggressive attack" on the fire, the department said, and it was placed under control at 10:29 p.m. Thirty-eight firefighters from Annapolis, Anne Arundel County and the Naval Academy Fire Department battled the blaze.
The fire was contained to a bottom-floor apartment in the three-story building, though several other units were damaged by smoke. No injuries were reported.
Four adults and one child were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross, the fire department said.
The apartment did not have an automatic sprinkler system, and did not have working smoke alarms.
Damages were estimated at $50,000.
