The former fire chief in Middlebury was sentenced Monday to three months in prison for embezzling funds, officials said.
Paul Perrotti, 49, was convicted in July of two counts of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Alker Meyer also ordered Perrotti to perform 200 hours of community service during his three years of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney's office said.
Meyer, in a ruling, found that Perrotti, who served as chief from 1997 to 2014, embezzled more than $25,000 from the department and town, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
