A new wildfire popped up in Pine Flat reservoir in Fresno County, prompting evacuations Saturday, said Will Goodman, fire captain with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The Sunny Fire started at 2:44 p.m. near the boat-launch area in between Pine Flat and Trimmer Springs Road, Goodman said.
It has consumed only 100 acres so far, but 50 structures are threatened. Goodman said 150 to 200 people could be affected by the evacuations.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday night that the Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at the Sanger Community Center, 730 Recreation Ave.
Small animals are being allowed at the Sanger evacuation center, according to Beth Caffrey of Central California Animal Disaster Team. Caffrey said via Twitter that large animals are being sheltered at the Verde View Ranch in Sanger, 1683 Del Rey Ave.
Firefighters from the Kern County Fire Department were also being brought in to help with the blaze.
There is no word on damage to buildings or injuries.
